In the past, the most troublesome problem for power department workers when installing cables was encountering obstacles such as rivers and lakes along the installation route. Especially in the water towns of Jiangnan, these rivers and lakes pose significant challenges for cable routing surveys and cable laying. In order to get rid of this problem, Nanjing Power Supply Company recently successfully used drones for the first time during the installation of power cables in Qixia District.

It is understood that the steps of drone operation are roughly as follows: before takeoff, the power supply construction personnel hang the lightweight high-strength primary guide rope on the hook below the drone; By using the camera and image transmission system configured on the drone, control the drone to fly the rope from one side of the power tower to the other; After arriving at the location, throw the guide rope down through the remote control in the hands of the construction personnel. In this way, the traction rope is set up between the two sets of towers, and the construction personnel then use the traction rope to pull the thicker secondary traction rope, thereby pulling the cables and wires.

According to the relevant person in charge of the power supply company, Nanjing is located in the water town of Jiangnan, and laying power cables often encounters difficulties such as dense forests, lakes, ecological greenhouses, and residential areas. After multiple visits to drone manufacturers and continuous exploration and testing, drones have been successfully applied to fiber optic cable laying construction, overcoming difficulties such as crossing nurseries, rivers, farmland, and residential houses. At the same time, the use of drones to lay power cables reduces the working time of overhead lines, greatly improves construction efficiency, and saves path resources and installation costs.

The power supply department stated that it will continue to explore more unmanned aerial vehicles in the laying of power cables, and conduct research on the carrying capacity, anti-interference ability, and stability of unmanned aerial vehicles. It will promote the application of unmanned aerial vehicles in a wider range of cable laying.
